This holiday was definitely interesting for sure. I was very grateful that Scott's dad invited me to join them on their little trip to Amsterdam to visit one of their Dutch friends to scatter ashes of a long time friend of theirs in the canal.
During my second year of University in 2016, Scott and his Dad, both stayed at my flat in central Manchester as it was around the corner from Manchester Oxford Road. This meant that we were able to catch a short 20 minute train ride to Manchester Airport to catch our flight. We were given special access due to Rob being blind which meant that we got a lot of special assistance and treatment at the Airport including priority boarding onto the plane. We arrived into Amsterdam Schiphol Airport at around 11am and headed to the station to catch a train into central Amsterdam to find and check into our hotel.
Once we had checked into the hotel and settled, we headed out to go and do a bit of sight seeing, you can just walk around central Amsterdam for hours and you'll see the Town Square, the canals and it's really true that people love to cycle in Amsterdam. I've never seen so many cyclists in such a short space of time and in one place.
If you ever get a chance to go to Amsterdam, you should take full advantage of seeing the famous places like The Anne Frank Museum, walk through the Red Light District, but most importantly make sure you try some of the local cuisines and fresh Amstel beer next to the River Amstel and jump onto a canal tour so you get to sit back and relax whilst being taken around the Amsterdam canals and take in the sights.
One word of advice that I have from this holiday is, if you're going on holiday with someone who is blind, don't let them have Heineken or any other form of alcohol and a joint of Marijuana because you may have a similar experience that me and Scott had with his Dad as he had himself a whitey moment and you'll be wondering how you've got yourself in this mess.
